🎃 Fall Fun Is in Full Swing at WDPS! 💚
The Harlem Wizards returned to Washington Drive to celebrate the incredible generosity of our community! Students enjoyed amazing basketball tricks, fitness fun, and lots of laughs. Thanks to your support, we surpassed our fundraising goal! We can’t wait to use these funds to enhance our campus and make WDPS even more magical for our students. Thank you for making the magic happen! 💚
🎃 Pumpkin Patch
Our kindergarten students sprinkled pumpkin seeds in our Outdoor Classroom, and we’re hoping a little WDPS magic helped our pumpkin patch grow! Students will bring home their own school-sized pumpkins on the bus!
Kindergarten: Monday
Second Grade: Tuesday
First Grade: Wednesday
👻 Halloween Reminders
Our Kindergarten Halloween Parade will take place on October 30 for kindergarten families only. First and second-grade families, we will be sharing lots of pictures and videos!
A few important reminders:
Classroom favors: If you want to send something in for your child's class, please no candy! Pencils, erasers, and Play-Doh are fun alternatives.
Costumes: Follow your teacher’s directions on whether students should wear costumes to school or bring them.
No masks or props: Please leave these at home to prevent them from getting lost or damaged.
📚 And here is a little sneak peek… the WDPS staff will be dressing up as characters from some of our favorite picture books! 📚 We can’t wait to see if you can guess who we are!
📚 A Special Message from Susan Verde! We loved welcoming author Susan Verde to Washington Drive and are so excited to share a special message she recorded just for our WDPS community! Click below to hear her message. We can’t wait to welcome her back to WDPS! 💚
Upcoming Safety Drill Notification:
This week, we will be conducting a fire drill. These notifications are provided to help you, if necessary, have conversations with your child to ensure they feel comfortable and prepared. As part of our commitment to student and staff safety, we conduct various safety drills throughout the school year. The purpose of these drills is to help everyone become familiar with our emergency procedures and respond quickly and effectively should a real emergency occur. Details of the Upcoming Drill:
Type of Drill: Fire (Evacuation)
Time Frame: Within the next week
Please note that the exact date and time of drills are not shared in advance for security reasons.
Committee Opportunity: Shared Decision Making Committee
Are you looking for a way to become more involved in the Washington Drive community? We are looking for two new members to join our Shared Decision Making Committee!
A Shared Decision-Making Committee brings together families, teachers, school administrators, and, at times, student representatives to collaborate on ideas and make recommendations that strengthen our school community. Together, we discuss and support school initiatives related to safety, curriculum, school events, and the overall student experience.
The commitment includes one meeting per month during the school day and a three-year term. This is a wonderful opportunity to share your perspective, collaborate with our school team, and help shape the experiences we create for our students.
If you are interested in joining us, we would love to hear from you! If we receive more expressions of interest than available spots, names will be selected at random.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping make Washington Drive such a special place to learn and grow!

On Wednesday, October 21, our school will celebrate Unity Day, a nationwide initiative dedicated to promoting kindness, acceptance, inclusion, and belonging.
Unity Day - 10/21 - Wear Orange
We invite all students and staff to wear orange as a visible sign of unity and our shared commitment to creating a school community where everyone feels welcomed, valued, respected, and supported.
Unity Day is an opportunity to remind our students that even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference. By standing together, we can help foster a positive school culture where differences are celebrated, and everyone feels a sense of belonging.
Let's come together on Wednesday, October 21, by wearing orange and showing that we are united in kindness!
